+ JOB SUMMARY The Outpatient Pharmacy Tech performs the technical clerical functions associated with dispensing medication. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Graduate or equivalent. Experience: N/A Licensure/Certification/Registration: Minnesota Technician registration prior to hire. Must become nationally certified (CPhT) within the required time period following date of hire per the Pharmacy Technician Career Ladder. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Education: Completion of approved pharmacy tech training program Experience: Previous work in a pharmacy environment. Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Familiarity with drug names, both brand and generic; ability to understand and to utilize the PIMS as well as PC's in the pharmacy; operational knowledge of equipment used in the pharmacy; to follow written and oral instructions with accuracy and dependability; to communicate verbal and written instructions; to work with sustained attention on repetitive tasks; to distinguish routine functions from those that require professional judgment; good finger dexterity; to do light typing; to learn and participate in all areas assigned; to adapt to the changing role of Hospital pharmacy and develop new technician roles; to give consistent attention to details. READING - Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. WRITING - Intermediate: Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures. SPEAKING - Intermediate: Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Intermediate Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret bar graphs to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY - Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
